First eco park inaugurated in Lima, Peru

The first eco park in Peru, which will use solar energy for its night illumination instead of the traditional electricity, was inaugurated in the Lima’s Miraflores district.

“We present a renovated park to the people, which main characteristic is that it is ecological as it will not use electricity for its night illumination. Also, the park has two underground containers for the storage of organic and inorganic waste,” Mayor of Miraflores Jorge Muñoz said Monday evening.

The mayor noted that the renovated Raul Porras Barrenechea park has an area of over one thousand square meters and features ornamental benches painted with anti corrosion finishes that only need to be cleaned for their conservation.

During the opening ceremony, Muñoz mentioned that the park’s illumination system will allow the storage of solar energy for up to 48 hours, making it possible to use said energy at nights.

Raul Porras Barrenechea park was reopened to the public after being closed for 20 years with iron bars. This measure was adopted at the time of violence that ravaged the country
