PERU COULD RECEIVE UP TO 5MLN TOURISTS IN 2016

ANDINA. Peru could welcome around five million tourists in 2016 if the country boosts tourism in South America during low season, that is, in the first months of year, head of Peru’s National Chamber of Tourism (Canatur) Carlos Canales said.

He added it is essential to deseasonalize tourism offer and attract groups of visitors from this region, taking into account that tourists from Brazil, Argentina and Chile use to travel between January and March, which coincides with our low season.

"We can easily attract those tourists by promoting the image of the country’s tourist areas," Canales said in statements to Andina.

Canatur's head pointed out that these actions would improve tourism in the first quarter of the year to wait for high-season months (June, July and August), when European and North American tourists arrive.

"This way, the government’s target to reach 3.6 million tourists in 2016 would be exceeded," he highlighted.

KOREAN AIR AIMS TO MAKE PERU ITS LATAM HUB

ANDINA. Korean Air CEO Yang Ho Cho said that the Asian airline aims to turn Peru into its hub for cargo and passengers in Latin America.

Cho, along with Peru’s Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism Jose Luis Silva, witnessed the departure of the first cargo flight of Korean Air from Lima to Seoul with 115 tons of Peruvian asparagus.

“This is Korean Air’s first flight from Peru and also is a cargo flight with shipments of asparagus, one of the country’s flagship products. With these operations, Peru increases its connectivity with Asia and the rest of the world,” said Silva.

Minister Silva noted that Korean Air will start its operations in Peru with cargo flights. The Asian airline will then operate passenger flights in the future.

“We trust in the stability of Peru and its government. We have great expectations with the business possibilities we have in the country,” said Cho.

The route of the flights will be Lima-Miami-Los Angeles-Seoul with connections to Asia. It will be operated by a Boeing 747-400F, one of the most modern cargo aircrafts in the world.

REGIONAL GASTRONOMY PROMOTED AS PERU’S AMBASSADOR WORLDWIDE

With initiatives such as the “Peru, mucho gusto” festival held in Tarapoto, the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) seeks to turn Peru's regional gastronomy into the 'ambassador of the country' worldwide, Minister Jose Silva Martinot said.

Silva said his ministry is working to promote the varied and delectable gastronomy offered by the provinces of Peru, through decentralized events like the increasingly popular Mistura festival in the capital Lima.

“Our aim is to make the regional gastronomy our main ambassador, we want to replicate the experience in Lima in other regions,” he told RPP radio station.

“Tarapoto has wonderful places, charming people and one of the best gastronomies in the Peruvian jungle. For this reason we have taken this culinary festival to the people of the North Amazon region,” Silva stated.

San Martin offers “wonderful” dishes, such as patarashca (roast fish wrapped in bijao leafs, similar to banana leafs) and the traditional juanes (made of rice, egg and meet), among others, he added.

NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC PICKS PERU AS ONE OF MUST-SEE PLACES FOR 2012

The ancient citadel of Machu Picchu, located in Cusco, was recently voted as the top destination to visit before you die in an online poll created by American news website The Huffington Post, and now Peru has been listed among the best trips for 2012 by the editors at National Geographic Traveler magazine.

The international travel magazine has described the Andean country as “the next foodie frontier” and says that there are plenty of reasons to visit Peru; for instance, to explore the archeological complex of Machu Picchu, spot some of the world’s rarest birds, or trek some of Earth’s deepest canyons.

“Yet, once you’re on the ground and hungry, you may find those experiences mere appetizers to the main event: food.”

According to the National Geographic Traveler magazine, Peru has been blessed with “incredible biodiversity—a bounty that is clearly reflected on its plates.” 

“Peruvians have long been vocally (and justifiably) proud of their homeland’s cooking, but suddenly, the rest of the world seems to be taking note, too. In 2008, the country’s leading chef, Gaston Acurio, founded Mistura, a Lima-based food festival that has since become the leading annual culinary event in South America,” the magazine writes.

Peru holds 418 pisco wineries with designation of origin

• (ANDINA). Peru holds a total of 418 wineries producing pisco, the country's flagship spirit, with denomination of origin this year, higher than the 367 wineries that existed in 2009, which represents a 14 percent rise, stated the chairman of the Board of the Pisco Designation of Origin Jaime Marimon. The denomination of origin of these 418 wineries is registered in Peru’s National Institute for the Defense of Competition and the Protection of Intellectual Property (Indecopi), Marimon pointed out.
  The greatest number of pisco wineries is located in Ica (174) and followed by Lima (169). Other major cities were the production of pisco is promoted are Arequipa (41), Tacna (17) and Moquegua (17), he noted.
  The increase in the number of this kind of establishments is mainly due to the effort of producers to innovate and maintain the product's quality, to promote the flagship drink and to encourage the responsible consumption of pisco.
  Said increase was also attributable to the joint work of the private sector and public entities related to this sector, which promote and publicize the benefits of this traditional Peruvian drink both nationally and internationally, Marimon noted.

Cientos de actores representaron a Manco Cápac y Mama Ocllo en Puno

Según la leyenda, Manco Cápac y Mama Ocllo, esposos e hijos del Dios sol, nacieron del lago Titicaca para fundar la capital del imperio del Tahuantinsuyo en un territorio fértil, que se trató del Cusco.

Esta historia ayer fue representada por un grupo de actores y bailarines en Puno, quienes ofrecieron un gran espectáculo con decenas de balsas y barcas, como parte de las celebraciones del aniversario de esta ciudad.

Además, ellos hicieron el tradicional pago a la “Mama Cocha” (madre agua) con hojas de coca y otros productos típicos de la región.

CUSCO Panaderos elaboraron tanta wawa de 12 metros en el Día de Todos los Santos

 

Con 12 metros de largo y cuatro de ancho, la tanta wawa más grande del país fue preparada por 70 panaderos en el distrito de Wanchaq, en Cusco.

La elaboración tuvo lugar en la plaza Túpac Amaru, en el marco de las actividades por el octavo festival de tanta wawas, que organizan las asociaciones de panificadores de la región.

Fueron muchos los pobladores que siguieron el proceso de preparación, en el que se utilizaron masas especiales, huevos, esencias, chocolates, caramelos, ajonjolí, manjar blanco, entre otros ingredientes.

La wawa gigante fue bautizada como ‘Valicha’, y con ello, se busca difundir la elaboración de un pan tradicional en la fecha del día de todos los Santos.

Policarpio Aguirre Palomino, presidente de la Asociación de Panificadores Industriales de Cusco, anunció que para el 2012 elaborarán una tanta wawa de 110 metros de largo y buscarán su inscripción en los récords Guinness, para lo que se requerirá al menos la participación de 400 panificadores.

PUNO Representación de Manco Cápac y Mama Ocllo contará con más de 400 actores

Por el 343 aniversario de la fundación de Puno, este sábado se realizará la tradicional escenificación de Manco Cápac y Mama Ocllo, los fundadores del Imperio Inca según cuenta la leyenda. La muestra en vivo contará con la colaboración de más de 400 actores y la atención de pobladores y turistas. “Además, el nuevo ambiente seleccionado es "más natural" y permitirá a los danzantes lucir sus atuendos y desplazarse sin dificultad. Se instalarán tribunas para los espectadores. Alexander Quispe, secretario técnico de la Federación de Cultura y Folclor de Puno se pronunció con respecto a la nueva locación para la presentación. Las actividades empezarán a las 06 am en la isla de los Uros, donde la mítica pareja hará un ritual de pago a la mamacocha (madre agua), a fin de solicitar permiso para iniciar la travesía por el lago Titicaca, a bordo de balsas de totora.
